Why do so many people have a challenging time with their weight-loss goals or with being able to be consistent with the healthier habits that they know serve them?

Many times when we want to make a change in our lives, we start out with the “how”, but starting with the how can lead to uncertainty because there is just so much information today on “how” to do something…

How to lose weight, how to eat better, how to burn calories, how to feel healthier, how to have more energy…we are constantly searching for the how.

3 out of 4 people in America are either considered overweight or obese. So, is this a “how” or strategy problem? Is it an information problem? I would say no…it is neither. I can give you the “how” or the strategy to reach your weight loss goals but you still may not apply it right? The problem is not lack of strategy.

The reason people have a challenging time hitting their goals is their Story and their State.

What is your Story?

What do you constantly repeat to yourself? It might sound something like “Ugh, I’ve tried everything and I still can’t lose the weight”. “Something is wrong with me”. “I just got stuck with bad genetics”. “I never have time to prepare or prioritize my health”. “Nothing works for me”. Etc, etc.

The stories that you are constantly telling yourself end up being the reality you create for yourself. Your brain will do everything that it can to confirm what you believe is true. So if you are telling yourself stories such as the ones above…guess what? You will more than likely seek out behaviors that validate those stories and have a hard time reaching/sustaining your goals.

What is a story that has been limiting your progress?

Your story quite literally controls your life. Change your story, change your life.

What is your State?

Now let’s talk about your State. If you want to make a change in your life or if you are not happy with x,y or z, you need to change your state. Your State is your emotions and your energy each day. Is your state bringing you down or is it lifting you up? Is your state allowing you to create positive changes in your life, or is it limiting you?

How can you change your state?

Well, emotion is created by motion or movement. The way that you move determines the way that you feel. If you are sitting around all day with slumped shoulders, I am guessing you are not feeling that great. If you focus on good posture and getting in good movement, you can literally change your state in a matter of minutes.

We can all self-sabotage and get in our own way, just remember that your brain seeks to confirm what you believe is true, once you decide what you deserve, what you want to be true about your life, you will start to find it and your actions will align with what you truly want most.
